Synopsis

Essay film that documents the filmmaker’s visit to her native Chile after living abroad for an extended period and at the same time of Augusto Pinochet’s arrest in London. The film captures a range of reactions to the dictator’s detention along with the filmmaker’s own reflections. mirando al sur explores the attachment to a traumatic history that functions as an anchor for a self undergoing the inevitable transformation that comes with migration.
