Cecilia Cornejo Sotelo es una realizadora, artista y profesora chilena, radicada en Estados Unidos. Recibi\u00f3 su Bachillerato en Comunicaci\u00f3n Audiovisual en la Universidad de Iowa y su Maestr\u00eda en Cine, V\u00eddeo y Nuevos Medios en la School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Con lazos entra\u00f1ables entre el medio-oeste norteamericano y la costa central de Chile, el trabajo de Cecilia explora temas de desarraigo, marginalidad y pertenencia y est\u00e1 informado por la experiencia de vivir entre culturas<\/em>. Usando metodolog\u00edas variadas la artista crea trabajos que navegan de manera flu\u00edda desde lo local a lo global y desde lo \u00edntimo hasta lo abiertamente pol\u00edtico.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Cecilia desarrolla m\u00e9todos de colaboraci\u00f3n con aqu\u00e9llos que participan en su trabajo con el fin de transformar \u201cpersonajes documentales\u201d en participantes activos, co-creadores de significado, arquitectos de su propia representaci\u00f3n. En apoyo a su visi\u00f3n ha recibido el fondo para Artistas Establecidos del Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council (2014), el fondo de Jerome Foundation para Cine y V\u00eddeo (2016), y fondos del Minnesota State Arts Board (Artist Initiative Grant, 2016 and 2018). Cecilia es profesora en el departamento de Estudios de Cine y Media en Carleton College, en Northfield, Minnesota.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hay un concepto derivado de la agricultura que ilustra mi metodolog\u00eda y es de importancia vital en mi trabajo creativo . Es el concepto de la milpa<\/em>, m\u00e9todo de cultivo utilizado por los Mayas y otras civilizaciones de Mesoam\u00e9rica, en donde se siembran al menos tres tipos de semilla\u2014ma\u00edz, frijol y calabaza. Estos productos ofrecen una alimentaci\u00f3n\u00a0 balanceada y son ambientalmente complementarios. La milpa<\/em> es un cultivo a escala humana\u2014se planta para autoabastecerse e intercambiar o vender el excedente\u2014y tiene tanto que ver con garantizar el sustento f\u00edsico como con alentar interacciones sociales que aseguren un modo de vida digno y a la vez sustentable.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As\u00ed como en la milpa<\/em>, mi trabajo se centra en varias actividades complementarias: producci\u00f3n art\u00edstica, docencia y gesti\u00f3n cultural.
